recommend donating to any particular shelter, but we do
provide a list of area shelters, their contact
information, and the clients they serve.

Alcohol and Drug Dependency Services is home to eight different
programs related to chemical dependency treatment
regardless of means. The Crisis Center is available 24
hours a day and 7 days a week for chronic substance
abusers who are homeless or at the risk for
homelessness.

The Altamont Program provides emergency and transitional housing for 34 men. The agency provides a complete program with case management, referral to treatment, and assistance with finding permanent housing.

Buffalo City Mission's Men's Shelter is a Christian-based
emergency shelter offering emergency shelter for up to
156 males (over 18 years of age). The Mission acts as a
safety net to ensure that no one is left on the street.
Individuals receive three meals a day, clothing, and
referrals in a safe location. Medical attention and a
long-term treatment program is available on-site.

Buffalo City Mission's Cornerstone Manor is a faith-based
emergency shelter and transitional housing provider offering housing for up to 60 women
and children. Families receive three meals a day,
clothing, and assistance/referrals in a safe and
comfortable location. Medical attention is also
available on-site as well as a school program for
children and parenting classes. Cornerstone Manor also
acts as a safe house for individuals experiencing family
violence. Four beds are marked for a residential
treatment program.

Community Action Organization provides a number of neighborhood
services including outreach centers, case management,
adult skills programs, food and clothing pantries, GED
classes, nutrition, advocacy, and emergency housing for
the homeless. The emergency shelter is located in
Lackawanna and has five rooms. The shelter can
accommodate unaccompanied males and females as well as
females with one child.

Community Services for the Developmentally Disabled's mission is
to provide or obtain services for people who are
developmentally disabled and their families. The program
assists individuals by helping them in achieving their
highest level of independent living, enabling them to
participate fully in society, ensuring their civil and
human rights, and contributing to their return to the
community as productive members.

A not-for-profit safe shelter and services for runaway and
homeless youth (aged 12-17 years) in an atmosphere that
supports the dignity, respect, and self-sufficiency of
each youth.

The Franciscan Center is a dual runaway and homeless youth
shelter offering short-term emergency shelter (6 beds)
and a long-term transitional independent living program
(8 beds). The program is certified by the NYS Office of
Child and Family Services. The Franciscan Center
provides a homelike setting and intensive case
management, using a tough love approach.

Haven House provides shelter for married and unmarried women
over 18 (or women age 16 with children) coming from a
situation of abuse and children who are abused
physically or sexually accompanied by non-abusing adult.
Women who are still being abused by an ex-spouse or
partner can also seek shelter. There are a total of 36
spaces available: 11 rooms, usually 3 beds to a
room.
Interfaith Hospitality

Unites religious and other organizations in responding to the
needs of homeless families in our community. The Network
provides a way for homeless families to receive
temporary shelter, meals, and assistance while seeking
their own independence. Also, provides support after the
family moves home.

Referrals are made by police, mental health agencies,

Transitional Services,

The Emergency Housing Service provides temporary housing for
homeless psychiatric disabled persons. The mission is to
link clients with housing, entitlements, and mental
health services. Priority is given to individuals who
have the potential to live independently. Individuals
must be 18 years or older and have a psychiatric
diagnosis. Length of stay must not exceed 28
days.
